John hammond is a prehistorian with particular knowledge of transmanche or cross-channel contact during the late Neolithic and Early Bronze Age (2500-1500 BC). He has made a special study of funerary traditions and the treatment of the dead on both sides of the English Channel and has an interest in matters of ritual and belief in prehistory. In other words he study the types of monuments that today – among others - we call henges and round barrows: who built them, why and how.

John has worked on prehistoric sites in the Mediterranean and, in pursuit of understanding, has spent some time studying hunter-gatherer hill tribes in southern India. In Kent he  worked on numerous sites, including RInglemere – where the Bronze Age gold cup was found (named by the BBC as one of Britain’s top ten treasures and now on show in the British Museum).

John teaches prehistory and archaeology at the University of Kent on a part-time basis and is a full-time Business manager for Canterbury Archaeological Trust (which is an educational charity funded by contract archaeology work. CAT employs more than 50 archaeologists and support staff and work throughout the county, not just in Canterbury).

John is presently engaged in a £1.2m international project to build a replica of the Dover Bronze Age Boat, which we hope to paddle across the Channel in 2012. The project is being made into a BBC documentary.

We have all seen evidence of the economy improving as discussed in todays WBG meeting.  Builders are building, solicitors are conveyancing, stock market improving and some very positive growth predictions for the economy from various international bodies.

The question to debate, from the viewpoint of "What is best for business?" is:

·          Do we stick with the party in power to protect the economic growth, as it seems to be working? 

OR

·          Do we vote for another party that may stifle the recovery but promises a quicker recovery? 

OR

·          Does it not matter who is in power, as the recovery will happen anyway?
